Be an Iridium Flare Magician
PHP-NukeBronco writes "Bronco writes "Imagine yourself sky watching one night with your family.  You have been watching the time and a few seconds before one of the sixty-six Iridium satellites passes overhead, you direct everyone's attention upward to see the short-lived but extremely bright flare-like glint of the sun reflecting off the mirrored surfaces of a solar-array on the otherwise invisible communications satellite.

This family of satellite flies in such a way that the path of the mirrored sun across the face of the Earth can be predicted with some accuracy.  I haven't had a chance to try for my first observation, but I am set for it.  I'll keep you posted as to my progress.

It was the hit of the evening at a bar-b-que to have everyone look upwards at just the right minute.  Check the website for times during dusk and dawn.  The quite bright travrse of the reflected sun across your eyes is "brilliant."  The gatekeeper and I saw three flashes in four nights.  Striking!

Truthiness is tearing apart our country...
PHP-NukeBronco writes "
... and I don't mean the argument over who came up with the word…

It used to be, everyone was entitled to their own opinion, but not their own facts. But that's not the case anymore. Facts matter not at all. Perception is everything. It's certainty. People love the President because he's certain of his choices as a leader, even if the facts that back him up don't seem to exist. It's the fact that he's certain that is very appealing to a certain section of the country. I really feel a dichotomy in the American populace. What is important? What you want to be true, or what is true?…
